Who we are
Dala Dance Company, directed by Liz Malcom, is dedicated to performing and teaching FatChanceBellyDance® (FCBD) Style Belly dance in Birmingham, Alabama. Dala’s goal is to create a fun and supportive community that strives to encourage and empower each other through group dance & cultural appreciation.
What does Dala mean? In the beginning of Dala, DeAnna Freeman and Liz Malcom wanted our name to connect with our beloved former troupe, Devyani Dance Company and Director, Megha Gavin. Devyani's symbol was a beautiful lotus blossom, symbol of enlightenment. DeAnna researched a name to connect the two groups. Dala means petal, and to us, this is a small part of the Devyani lotus.
